Freezing rain to hit Moscow as airports are paralyzed
Freezing rain is expected in Moscow on Friday and the temperature will rise, leaving a layer of black ice on roads and pavement, Fobos meteo center has predicted.
“The weather on Friday will be very different, it will be warmer, the precipitation will be mixed, covering roads, houses, trees and power lines with a layer of ice,” a Fobos expert told RIA Novosti.
On Friday afternoon, the weather is expected to reach 1-3 degrees above zero.
At the moment Moscow airports are struggling because of heavy snowfall and hundreds of flights have been delayed.
At Sheremetyevo International Airport 36 flights were delayed, and seven cancelled. Twelve planes cannot land.
At Domodedovo International Airport 34 departures and 90 arrivals were delayed. In Vnukovo 14 flights were affected in total.
Freezing rain has already stalled traffic in Moscow and affected thousands of passengers in airports.
Ice build up on power lines caused some of them to snap, leaving areas of the Moscow region without electricity.
